The box has a bold and colourful design inspired by the original Lifeboat Saturday advertisement that featured in a 19^th century newspaper. Following a lifeboat disaster, Sir Charles Macara organised the first Lifeboat Saturday in 1891, where thousands of people paraded through Manchester to raise money for RNLI lifesavers. After raising over £5,000 – which is over £500,000 today – the Lifeboat Saturday concept paved the way for future fundraisers, who have helped us save lives at sea for 200 years and counting.
