Thanks to its courage, ingenuity and donors, the RNLI has continued to grow over the last two centuries, saving more than 144,000 lives. In honour of the 200th anniversary of the RNLI and the institution’s exceptional work, the charity is being celebrated on a UK coin.

Since the origins of the charity in 1824 at the City of London Tavern, the RNLI has been saving lives at sea and on lakes and rivers, constantly striving towards its goal ‘to save every one’.

Featuring a brand-new design by experienced coinage artist John Bergdahl, the reverse displays the RNLI flag surrounded by a life ring bearing the exceptional 200-year anniversary the charity has reached. The obverse of the coin features the official coinage portrait of His Majesty The King, created by Martin Jennings.
