This barometer – with a design that’s been used for weather watching since the 17th century – measures atmospheric pressure to help you see when a storm is on its way. It has a cast iron base and a glass vessel that comes with a syringe to fill it with water and blue pigment to colour it.
High atmospheric pressure forces the water down the spout and raises the water level in the glass. When air pressure is low, the water in the spout rises. So, when a storm is near, you’ll be one of the first to know!
