The RNLI Polperro jumper is a quintessential British fisherman’s knit, inspired by the classic gansey (or guernsey) jumpers first made on Cornwall’s rugged south coast.
These jumpers were traditionally knitted by fishermen's wives to keep them warm at sea. Hard-wearing and tightly knitted to resist sea spray and wind, the patterns represent waves and twisting ropes and ladders, telling stories handed down through generations. Every jumper bought helps the RNLI to save lives at sea.
