Alex Monroe Collection

These stunning pieces of jewellery have been designed and handmade by Alex Monroe Ltd. to celebrate the RNLI’s 200th year. Drawing inspiration from RNLI heroine Grace Darling, Alex and his team have created an ethically-sourced brooch and necklace with a beautifully intricate coastal scene.

About the design

This collection is inspired by the courageous Grace Darling, who rowed out to sea into a terrible storm in 1838 and saved nine people’s lives. Grace was the daughter of a lighthouse keeper, William Darling. When they spotted the outline of a shipwreck from their lighthouse, they saw it as their duty to rescue the survivors.

A nod to Grace, the coastal scene features a lighthouse. It is a beacon of hope – just like the RNLI has been, and continues to be, to so many people in desperate need of help. Nautical rope and buttercup flowers surround it, symbolising unity, strength and friendship.
