This stunning pin-back brooch features an intricate coastal scene inspired by RNLI heroine, Grace Darling. Grace rowed out to sea into a terrible storm in 1838 and saved nine people’s lives. She was the daughter of a lighthouse keeper, William Darling. When they spotted the outline of a shipwreck from their lighthouse, they saw it as their duty to rescue the survivors.
A nod to Grace, the beautiful coastal scene features a lighthouse. It is a beacon of hope – just like the RNLI has been, and continues to be, to so many people in desperate need of help. Nautical rope and buttercup flowers surround it, symbolising unity, strength and friendship.
This brooch has been designed by Alex Monroe Ltd. to celebrate the RNLI’s 200th year. Committed to minimising the impact of their work on the environment and people, Alex and his team handmade this brooch in England using ethically sourced materials.
