The RNLI Heritage Collection

This collection has been handcrafted with wood from an RNLI flagpole. The flagpole stood on the Isle of Man at Ramsey Lifeboat Station from 1924. The Isle of Man is where RNLI founder Sir William Hillary was inspired to form the institution. Now, the flagpole that stood on that very ground has been repurposed to create this collection.

About the flagpole

The flagpole stood for more than 100 years on the Isle of Man outside Ramsey Lifeboat Station. The Isle of Man has an important place in the RNLI’s history. It is where RNLI founder Sir William Hillary saw the treacherous nature of the sea and witnessed dozens of shipwrecks. Because of what he had seen, he took action and went on to form what is now the RNLI.

The flagpole has now been repurposed to make this very special paperweight and cufflinks collection. As well as ‘RNLI 200 years and counting’, the paperweight is engraved with coordinates to the Tower of Refuge. This tower was built after Sir William Hillary petitioned for a sanctuary there to offer shelter to victims of shipwreck.
