Mango wood is totally sustainable, so it’s better for our planet and super repellent for any spills too.
Choose from two coastal designs - mussels or waves. The designs were hand-painted in Lincolnshire by Nicole Keir-Tomalin in the Shoeless Joe studio. They are photographically reproduced onto a decal, one at a time, which is heat-transferred onto the wood.
These sustainable wooden trays are approved for use with food and drink. The enamel can be cleaned with warm soapy water - the trays are not dishwasher-proof. And to maintain the lustre of the mango wood, you can periodically apply olive or sunflower oil.
Why mango wood promotes sustainable living
A mango wood tree can soar to 30m high within 15 years, and the wood is usually only harvested once picking the fruit for the thriving mango fruit industry becomes too dangerous. In comparison, it takes around 100 years for an oak tree to reach the same height.
Once the fruit is picked for the last time, the tree is harvested and a new mango tree is planted in its place, ready to provide the next yield of fruit.
Selling the mango wood rather than burning down the tree is beneficial for both the fruit farmers and the environment. It generates extra income for the farmers and, in turn, reduces air pollution.
