Description

The fascinating history ofBarmouth Lifeboat Station has been brought to life in a new book written byNorma Stockford and David Baily. Read about our brave volunteers and their lifeboats, from the past to the present, and how they have battled the elements to bring people to safety.

About the authors

NORMA STOCKFORD joined the Barmouth Ladies' Lifeboat Guild in 1971 and was awarded the Institution's Silver Badge in 1989 after 15 years as Treasurer. In 2010, Norma became Barmouth Lifeboat Press Officer, combining the role with that of Fundraising Committee Secretary. Members of Norma's family have served on Barmouth lifeboats since 1939. Her father and husband both served on The Chieftain and her son William is currently helm of the Aberdyfi lifeboat.

DAVID BAILY joined the Merchant Navy as an apprentice in 1966 at the age of 17. Marrying in 1973, he moved to Barmouth in 1977, where his four children grew up. He retired from the sea as a Master Mariner in 2009. It was then that he became a volunteer at Barmouth Lifeboat Station, initially as a Deputy Launching Authority and, since 2013, as the station's Lifeboat Operations Manager.
